Family Planning NSW is currently in damage control after an ANZAC day cyber-attack which may have compromised a number of online databases.
CEO Ann Brassil said in a letter to “inform” and “apologise” up to 8,000 people last week:
“These databases contained information from clients who had contacted Family Planning NSW through our website in the last two-and-a-half years, seeking appointments or leaving feedback.”
The attackers also threatened to shut the website down if a ransom of AU$15,000 worth of Bitcoin was not paid, Ms Brassil also told a press conference on the 14th May.
The sensitivity of the information flags this a potential breach under Australia’s Notifiable Data Breaches Scheme, which came into effect in February 2018.
